When any kind of renovating, building or earthworks are being carried out it is often necessary to tear down old work and dig into the ground where other buildings or premises have once stood. But cable locating and finding wires that have previously been laid is necessary if no damage to utilities or plumbing is to occur. Such damage is costly and time consuming to fix and every builder will want to avoid such a calamity.

Maps will be necessary to see where cables have been laid, but sometimes there are no maps available. And even if there is a map, it may not be the most recent one and so may not show where a cable has subsequently been laid. Therefore it is necessary to have cable locators that can be sure of finding what is buried under the earth. They not only need to be able to accurately pinpoint the location of cables, but tell at what depth they have been placed.

Additionally, they should tell you what kind of cable or pipe is there so that you can be prepared to deal with it. Locating services are also needed so that repairmen can find and repair faults in cables, pipes or wires. This makes the job much more quick and efficient as less time is wasted searching for the fault.

And in the case of ripping up concrete you need to have concrete scanning done by professionals so that you know exactly what is buried under or in that concrete. For the home renovator or builder it is possible to hire the equipment necessary to locate pipes, cables or wires under concrete or earth. This saves accidentally digging up electric wires or utility pipes whether metal or PVC.

Builders also need to have access to mapping services to show where such cables are to be laid when they are building. This will then be available should any future work such as extensions or renovations be required on the site.
